SUMMARY:Free one hour talk: Why Everyone is Needed
DESCRIPTION:God’s love is for everyone\, and a Christian Science lecture is a perfect setting to learn about God’s love and the healing that it brings. \nAs we learn more about who we are–as God’s thoughtful\, loved creation–our self-worth\, purpose\, physical health\, and relationships are transformed. Finding this new sense of our connection to God helps us bring healing to difficult world problems like political divisions and social inequality. Each one of us is connected to God. No one is left out. James’ lecture discusses what our purpose is\, where our worth comes from\, and shares examples of how seeing ourselves and others as God sees us gives us a spiritual perspective that heals ourselves and our world. \n“I love exploring the nature of God\, infinite Love\, as the only cause\, and our unbreakable connection to God as God’s offspring\,” says Shepherd. “This connection gives us our purpose and worth by seeing everyone from a more God-like\, or spiritual\, point of view. I’ve experienced how this has an impact on my life and on the lives of others.”  \n \nThe talk will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible\, especially in Christ Jesus’ life and teachings\, showing how they are available for anyone to understand and experience through the lens of Christian Science. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and sponsored by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Burlington. \nJames travels from his home base in Eugene\, Oregon\, to speak to audiences around the world as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. \nThere is plenty of free parking behind the South Burlington Library. \nIf you have any questions\, feel free to email fcbclerk@gmail.com for a prompt reply or leave a phone message at 802-864-4709 (messages checked every few days)

SUMMARY:Free one hour talk: The Science of God and its power to heal us
DESCRIPTION:Misconceptions about ourselves and the world we live in are often corrected by advances in science which bring paradigm shifts to our ways of thinking and understanding existence — like discovering that the earth revolves around the sun\, rather than the other way around. \nThe current matter-based scientific model leaves many questions unanswered and has some thinkers and scientists questioning if it is still the right model. It is interesting to consider if the time has now come for another major paradigm shift in science – a shift that would include God as the center and circumference of all existence. This paradigm shift in thought begins with the questions – how does science relate to God and is there a science that explains God? \nNikki will address these questions and show how the Science of God explains Jesus’ healings\, and teachings\, makes God knowable and understandable\, and provides humanity with a safe and reliable means for caring for ourselves and each other. \nNikki will also share some of her own experiences of the transforming\, healing power of God gained through understanding this science of God\, or Christian Science. She will explain how this healing happens\, and what role consciousness plays in the process. \n  \nDriving to the Dudley H. Davis Center\, UVM (and adjacent Jeffords parking lot)\nFree parking on Saturday \nCell phone and navigation systems directions to parking: Search “Jeffords Parking Lot” and follow the directions. (Do not search Dudley H. Davis Center – those directions take you to the middle of Main Street instead of to an actual parking lot.) \nDIRECTIONS TO THE DAVIS CENTER’S PARKING LOT (JEFFORDS): \nFrom highway: Take Exit 14W onto Williston Rd./Main St./US Rte. 2 W. Once past Doubletree by Hilton (right side of road) go through two traffic lights (second traffic light crosses Spear St./East Ave.). After second traffic light\, take first right and (this is a soft right onto Beaumont Ave). Take next left for the Jeffords Lot or continue straight through the next traffic light and then take a left for the Water Tower Lot. \nFrom downtown Burlington: Travel up hill on Main St./US Rte. 2 E. Turn right onto Spear St. Merge left immediately (to go around the jug handle). At traffic light turn left onto Main St. Continue straight through next traffic light then take a right (this is a soft right onto Beaumont Ave). Take next left for the Jeffords Lot or continue straight through the next traffic light and then take a left for the Water Tower Lot. \nAccessible parking is available: There are also a few ADA accessible parking spaces and regular parking spaces in the oval in front of the Dudley H. Davis Center. You can also drive around the oval to drop someone off directly in front of the door to the Dudley H. Davis Center and then loop back around to park in the Jeffords parking lot \n  \n \nA little background about Nikki:\nNikki is an international Christian Science lecturer. She lives in County Kildare\, Ireland. \nNikki grew up in South Africa. From a young age she had a strong desire to not just experience life\, but to understand it. While Nikki did grow up attending Christian Science Sunday School\, as a teen she decided that this would not be the way for her to gain the understanding of life that she was seeking\, and she headed off in another direction. A transformational healing brought her back to Christian Science. She then discovered that she loved the infallible logic of the Science of Christianity. Life and God finally began to make sense and became full of joy\, light\, and love. \nThrough her study and practice of Christian Science\, Nikki has experienced and witnessed many healings over the years. Her earnest desire is for all to know the transformational healing power of divine Love. \nContact:\nwww.christianscienceburlington.org\nEmail: fcbsclerk@gmail.com\n802-864-4709 \nNikki O’Hagan\, CS\nChristian Science practitioner\nMember of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship

SUMMARY:Free One Hour Public Talk: How Spiritual Perception Brings Healing
DESCRIPTION:When things look bleak\nA fresh insight about God’s love can lift feelings of hopelessness\nAlex Fischer\, practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker\, will present his talk\, “How spiritual perception brings healing\,” on November 11th\, at 11:00am at the South Burlington Public Library auditorium. \nThe talk will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible\, especially in Christ Jesus’ life and teachings\, showing how they are available for anyone to understand and experience through the lens of Christian Science. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and sponsored by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Burlington. “We are not stuck!” encourages Fischer. “Understanding more clearly our relationship with God\, infinite good\, ends fear and leads the way forward.” \nSharing examples of healing from his own life and professional practice of Christian Science\, Fischer will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific\, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves\, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement\, Mary Baker Eddy. \nFischer will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy\, who came to understand\, confirm\, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand\, “He that believes on me\, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do\, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible). \nFor over 150 years\, people around the world have worked to follow Christ Jesus in this practice of Christianity and continue to do so today\, experiencing healings of physical ills and personal difficulties. \nAlex Fischer has been a Christian Science practitioner for many years\, helping people on a daily basis through this scientific approach to prayer. He travels from his home base in the southwest of France to speak to audiences around the world as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. \nThere is plentiful free parking around the Library — on the street and behind the building. The auditorium is ADA accessible.\nThere will be time for questions in English and French following the talk.

SUMMARY:Free One Hour Public Talk: Be Set Free
DESCRIPTION:Circumstances often present what appear to be significant obstacles to living freely\, something that everyone wants to do. Whatever it is that seems to stand between us and the full range of motion that we would like to have in our lives – it’s not so much the presenting impediment that is the problem – it’s not knowing how or where to access our God-given liberty \nIn this talk\, we will examine liberty from a Biblical perspective; and see how real people today find their freedom from all kinds of physical\, emotional and circumstantial restrictions that are clearly beyond their control so that they may Be Set Free. \nDownload Flyer\nParking\, Walking\, and Bus Info

So I returned to school and got a Masters of Arts in Teaching. This desire to help others and my love of Christian Science impelled me to set time aside to pray for others. While a mother of two children\, I became a full-time Christian Science practitioner\, and have pursued a lifelong career of learning about God\, sharing Truth\, and witnessing God’s love for mankind. \nI’ve lived in six states in the U.S. and twice in São Paulo\, Brazil\, where I became fluent in Portuguese. Each new culture and environment has taught me more about God\, universal Love\, and how God’s goodness is reflected by all people. These new views have opened up wonderful opportunities to interact with people from a wide variety of cultural and economic backgrounds\, faiths\, and age groups. In Brazil\, I helped start up an award winning social program that taught mothers living in a favela (slum) how to make beautiful handmade quilts for resale\, the income from which put shoes on their childrens’ feet and gave these women a new sense of self-worth. \nUnderlying all my experiences is the desire to bring healing to mankind\, to show each individual their God-given freedom\, their real heritage\, their right to happiness and health\, and their inherent ability to feel God’s love. \nToday\, I reside in Dallas\, Texas\, where I continue my healing practice as well as an active in prison ministry. While serving on the Board of Lectureship\, I have given lectures at food pantries\, museums\, libraries\, community centers\, churches\, as well as at local\, state\, and federal prisons.

Well\, I’ve noticed the reverse is also true: time expands to enable what is actually required of that moment.” \nIn the talk\, Dave will share some of the spiritual ideas he has employed to break stressful limitations imposed by time\, in his healing work for others and during cross-country motorcycle trips. SUMMARY:Free Public Talk: Learn to Pray and Heal (a spiritual adventure)
DESCRIPTION:How can our prayers matter?\nNate Frederick\, CS\nInternational speaker\nChristian Science Board of\nLectureship\nFree Public Talk\nSponsored by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Burlington \nNorth End Studio A\n294 N. Winooski Ave\nBurlington \n\nFree street and lot parking\nFully accessible\nCTTA bus route #9\nFree childcare for attendees\nCall 802-864-4709 to register for childcare\n\n[su_button url=”https://christianscienceburlington.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/20181013-nate-frederick-lecture.pdf” background=”#000000″]DOWNLOAD FLYER[/su_button] \n  \nMore on Nate Frederick’s Lecture Learn to Pray and Heal (a spiritual adventure):\nAre prayer and healing for you? I mean\, if you have no experience with spirituality or religion\, or you’re not even sure what you think about God\, can you still pray and be healed? \nYes. Because prayer and healing are natural to us\, and I say this as one who didn’t even grow up in a religious household. But what I’ve discovered as I’ve studied Christian Science is that a willingness to shift perspectives\, to see things in a new\, more spiritual way\, has an effect–for anyone. \nLike in the case of an inmate I worked with. As I shared the basics of Christian Science with him he said it all sounded great but he was just a bad person. He seemed pretty convinced that healing wasn’t for him. But as we talked about the fact that he wasn’t defined by his past\, but by God\, his source\, who is completely good\, I could tell his thought about himself was changing. \nAnd then he wanted more. So he took a copy of the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s book\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, back to his cell and started to dive into these books. Six or seven weeks later\, I ran into him again and he told me that he’d been healed of a serious illness–just from studying the Bible and Science and Health. SUMMARY:Making meaningful change: how God's love can change your life and the world
DESCRIPTION:Free public lecture by Mark McCurties\, C.S.\n \nWe live in a world where millions of people are striving to make change for the better. So\, in a world seeking positive change\, how do we make sure that such change actually happens? Speaker Mark McCurties says\, “We all have a natural desire to improve ourselves and the world around us.  In my own life I’ve found that letting God\, divine Love\, guide and direct my efforts brings permanent and meaningful results.” \nMcCurties\, a practitioner of Christian Science healing\, will present a talk titled\, “How God’s love can change your life and the world” on Saturday Oct 14th\, 2017\, 10:30am at Waterman building\, UVM\, 85 S. Prospect St\, Burlington \n“The desire to change ourselves\, to improve our character\, our relationships\, our life prospects can also go beyond just the boundary of our own lives and the four walls of our home. Many men and women around the world have a sincere yearning to improve the collective experience of mankind\,” says McCurties. “In this lecture\, I will explain how God’s loving and saving power is the greatest agent for change\, and that through a right understanding of God\, His power can be seen and felt right here and now\, bringing health and peace to the world.” \nThe ideas in this lecture are based on the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Bible\, and as discussed in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, by Mary Baker Eddy. \n \nMcCurties has had a life-long love of the Bible and its inspiring message of individual triumph over adversity. After graduating from college he spent a number of years in the field of education where he worked as a camp director\, experiential educator\, resident counselor\, and athletics coach. While working with young people\, he had many opportunities to witness the healing power of God\, and these inspiring experiences eventually led him into the full-time public practice of Christian Science. \nMark McCurties is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. He travels from his home in Boston\, Massachusetts. \nFree parking behind building
